According to the recent teardown by iFixit, the iPhone 16 Pro is the most repairable model of Apple since the iPhone 7. Detailed views of the inside show quite a few improvements in making things easy to repair.

One of the big changes is a fully-encased battery, which is safer for repairers. It also means that even if repairers accidentally poke through it, a fire won’t occur- everything’s inside a special case. Despite being bigger, the battery inside carries more power capability, increasing from 12.7Wh in the iPhone 15 Pro to 13.94Wh in the iPhone 16 Pro.

One change is the fact that the iPhone 16 Pro no longer has one of the 5G mmWave antennas because of the new Camera Control button. That could impact those relying on fast cellular service; Apple has moved the remaining antenna closer to the edge to try and make up for it. However, the mmWave signal is weak and limited to specific areas in the U.S., so not too many users will notice much of a difference.

These design changes also make things easier when it comes to repairs. For instance, there’s no longer a need to take out the display to access internal parts, and the battery is easier to remove thanks to the addition of pull tabs. Plus, the iOS 18 update makes swapping in official components easier.

Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro got a score of 7 from iFixit for its repairability score, a first since the iPhone 7. Compared to the score of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which was 4/10, that is a great improvement.
